Reception Class 2024
We are warmly welcoming parents of children due to start school in September 2024 to tour our fantastic school. Dates of our tours can be found below, please contact us to book a place.
Starting School in Reception
Starting school can be a big step for a child and we try to ensure that each child is helped to settle in happily and quickly. During the Summer Term, prior to entry, an evening meeting is held for parents. At this meeting, arrangements are made for the children to make visits to school to meet the teacher and other children in their class. Home visits by the teacher and teaching assistant to the child’s home are also part of our induction policy. Parents have told us that they find these visits very helpful, but if you would prefer to meet the teacher at school we are happy to arrange this.
These induction arrangements give children an opportunity to become familiar with the teacher and the school surroundings. It is also an opportunity for parents to discuss any particular concerns or queries. During the first three weeks in September, children attend on a part-time basis, so that the teacher can get to know them in a smaller group before the whole class attends together. More information about these arrangements is given during the summer term.
In year entry to our school
When moving schools to Hambrook our experience is a very positive one. Children love coming to school here and build lifelong friends and memories. On entry your child’s class teacher will meet with you as a parent/carer to find out more about your child, their likes/dislikes, hobbies, academic work and any concerns you may have. Children are paired with a buddy in their class to help the settling in period. Staff at Hambrook are always available to speak to if you have any questions or concerns.
South Gloucestershire Council manages our schools admissions (this includes in year entry and when starting the school in reception). Please contact them to find out if we have spaces or to complete an application form for your child starting in September.
