Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome back to term 2.
Last term was fantastic with so many wonderful learning experiences and celebrations. A big thank you to all of the parents who attended our Stay and Calculate session, our Year 4 class assembly and our Forest School lessons. It was wonderful to see you all and our children thoroughly enjoyed you all being in school.
A big thank you to our whole school community for the generous donations for the Bristol Food Bank. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our school community for this much needed charity.
Term 2 is undoubtedly one of our favourite terms at Hambrook with many festive events planned. We hope to see you all at one of these events soon.
Thank you for your continued support
Mrs. Rubel

School developments this year
We are excited to share with you the focus for our school's development this year. As a school we will be working on:
- Our 2nd year of our OPAL Play Project. We will be enjoying our 2nd year of our play project with a focus on embedding and developing the range of play opportunities we provide during lunchtimes for our children. At the end of this year we will be assessed by the OPAL Team and our aim is to achieve the highest award, Platinum, for our work on developing high-quality play. We will keep you updated on this work through our newsletters. We have our Winter Stay and Play event planned for Friday 9th February 2024 which parents/carers are warmly welcome to attend.
-We hope to be developing a nursery class at Hambrook. This work will be lead by Mrs. Perry (EYFS and KS1 Leader). Our aims for this is to support our families and local community and provide high quality education for the pupils joining us. The nursery class will be taught by a qualified teacher and provide an excellent start to our pupils learning at Hambrook. Once we have more details on this we will be in contact with all families to see if they require places.
-Resilience and Metacognition. We will be looking at ways to improve our children's resilience (the ability to bounce back when challenges arise) and their understanding of how they learn (metacognition). More information on these projects will be shared in the new year.

Communication with school
At Hambrook, we believe that a close and trusting relationship between home and school is integral for the success and happiness of our children. We offer a number of ways for parents/carers and staff to communicate these include:
- Parents evenings twice a year (November and March) with a written copy of assessments and interventions provided.
- A written report in July.
- Teaching staff are in the playground every day after school for informal conversations or quick questions.
- Our Headteacher (Mrs. Rubel) and Inclusion Leader (Mrs. Pitman) are on the gate every morning for any questions or informal discussions.
- Our School Office is open from 8.30-4.30pm every day for queries relating to dinner money etc.
- Parents/carers can email questions to us. Please note that emails are responded to in priority order not the order emails are received in. This ensures we deal with the most urgent needs first e.g. safeguarding. We aim to reply to all emails within 5 days, however during busy times this may take longer.
- Parents/carers are able to book individual meetings with our staff (including our SENDCo) by contacting the office.
At all times we ask all parents and carers to follow our Parent Code of Conduct which can be found here.

Healthy school
A polite reminder about breaktime snacks. As a healthy school we only allow fruit, vegetable or other healthy snacks at breaktime e.g. cheese and crackers. We do not allow crisps, chocolate, sweets or nuts. Thank you for your support.
|
|
|
|
Safe Parking
Please can we ask all parents/carers to take care when driving around our school and park safely. Please use parking around the common and walk to the school gates, dropping off children by our gates is dangerous and puts our children at risk.
|
|
|
Holidays in term time
A polite reminder that we do not authorise any holidays in term time. We recommend all parents/carers read our Attendance Policy and are familiar with it. It is important that all parents/carers understand that if you choose to take your child/ren out of school for a holiday in term time you may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority. Our policy includes more details on this.
Please be aware that the school does not provide work for pupils who take holiday in term time.
