INSET Training

During our INSET day, staff spent time preparing for the year ahead, with a strong focus on three key areas: safeguarding, our School Development Plan and introducing our new ‘States of Being’ approach.

Safeguarding remains at the heart of everything we do, and our staff revisited key responsibilities and training on ways in which we can continue to ensure that our children are safe, supported and able to thrive.

We also spent time working together on our School Development Plan, considering our priorities for the year and how we can continue to improve our school and provide the very best opportunities for our children.   This year, we will be focusing on:

• Excellent teaching and learning – ensuring all children are engaged, making strong progress and have the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
• Consistency across the school – developing a shared approach to teaching and assessment so that all children experience high-quality learning and are encouraged to achieve their best.
• Independent learners – helping children to become confident learners who can think about how they learn, set themselves goals, check their progress and reflect on how they can improve.

A particularly exciting part of our INSET was beginning to explore our new ‘States of Being’ approach which links to developing independent learners. This will help the children adopt the mindset, identity, and behaviours of an expert in that field. E.g rather than ‘doing maths’ they become mathematicians.  We look forward to sharing more about this with you and, most importantly, seeing it come to life in the children's learning throughout the year.

Updates to Behaviour Policy 

We are extremely proud of the behaviour of our children at Hambrook Primary School. They are consistently polite, kind and demonstrate impeccable manners. Of course, even the best-behaved children can occasionally slip up, and so, as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting positive behaviour, we have revisited our school’s Behaviour Policy. This ensures that our expectations are clear for everyone and that children understand what will happen if these expectations are not met.

There are no significant changes to the policy. However, we have enhanced it by providing clear definitions of the behaviours we expect to see, as follows:

In addition, we have added further details about what will happen if a child finds it difficult to follow these behaviours, as well as providing additional information about how we support children with additional needs who may need extra help to meet our expectations. Our aim is always to understand, support and guide children so that they can make positive choices and feel successful at school.

Sports Day 2026

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Hambrook’s Sports Day on Thursday 10^th September 2026.

Our PTA will be providing hot and cold drinks plus snacks throughout the day.

Opal Stay and Play Picnic

We ask you to join us for the Opal Stay and Play Picnic from 11:45am to 12:45pm on Sports Day. If you are unable to attend, please be assured that your child will have lunch with their class teacher and then be supervised in the playground. If you will be joining for the picnic, we ask that you provide a packed lunch for them on this day if possible. If you still wish to purchase a school meal, please note that ham, cheese or tuna deli will be the only options and these will be paired with a biscuit and a piece of fruit. This will need to be booked via Arbor as usual. You are also welcome to join your child in the playground if you wish. The normal school bell will ring at 12:40pm when all children must return to the playground to be re-registered.

Harvest Collection

On 23rd October, we will be celebrating Harvest at Hambrook Primary School and, as part of our celebrations, we will be collecting food for North Bristol Foodbank. We would be very grateful for donations of the items below, which can be brought into school from Monday 12th October. A collection table will be set up in the hall, where children can bring in their donations and place them ready to be shared with those in our local community who may need a little extra support. We would encourage everyone to be as generous as they can. Every donation, however big or small, will make a difference and is a wonderful way for us, as a school community, to celebrate Harvest by thinking of and supporting others. Particular requests from the food bank are as follows:

·  Tinned fruit or tinned tomatoes

·  Microwave rice or tinned meat

·  UHT Milk/ a box of cereal

·  Juice cartons/ squash

·  Tinned desserts

·  Tinned vegetables

·  Washing up liquid

·  Laundry detergent (small box)

PTA Events

PTA Movie Night on Hambrook Common

Grab your camping chairs or picnic blankets and watch a great movie with family and friends at our Hambrook Primary PTA Movie Night, raising funds towards air conditioning for the school.

Bar, food and games available on the common, including a raffle with some excellent prizes.

Tickets for the Halloween Disco on 22^nd October will be available soon on Class List.

Attendance-requests for absences

We would like to remind all families that if you are planning for your child to be absent from school during term time for any reason other than illness or emergency, you must submit a written request to the Headteacher at least two weeks in advance.

Please note that, in accordance with the law in England, parents do not have the automatic right to take their children out of school during term time. The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006, as amended in 2013, state that leave of absence may only be granted in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Headteacher.

Unauthorised absences may result in a penalty notice or further legal action, so it is vital that all requests are made in writing to the Headteacher with sufficient notice.

Thank you for your support in ensuring high attendance and continuity in your child’s education.

Forest School Timetable 2026-27

Come and learn with us! 

At Hambrook we are committed to working in partnership with our families. One way in which this happens at Hambrook is with our 'Stay and ....' sessions. Across the year, we provide a variety of sessions so that parents/carers can attend school and learn alongside their children. The benefits to these sessions are that our children enjoy them, our families enjoy them and it helps our parents/carers understand more about learning and the subjects studied at Hambrook. 

No booking is necessary, just come along on the day. Parents with more than one child are welcome to split their time between classes. 

To comply with safeguarding, we politely ask that mobile phones are not used during these sessions.

Come in and see your child's books

Parents/carers are warmly invited into school on the following dates to sit with your child and look through their books in their classroom. 

^26th November 2026 3.20-4.00pm

^9th March 2027 3.20-4.00pm

^1st July 2027 3.20-4.00pm

These sessions are placed before parents' evenings to give parents/carers an opportunity to look at their child's work before meeting with the class teacher at parents' evening. 

No need to book, simply turn up on the day. Parents with more than one child are welcome to split their time between classes.

Parents' Evenings will be happening on Tuesday 2nd December and Wednesday 3rd December. 

Healthy school- snacks

A polite reminder about breaktime snacks. As a healthy school we only allow fruit, vegetable or other healthy snacks at breaktime e.g. cheese and crackers. We do not allow crisps, chocolate, sweets or nuts. Thank you for your support. 

Safe Parking

Please can we ask all parents/carers to take care when driving around our school and park safely. Please use parking around the common and walk to the school gates, dropping off children by our gates is dangerous and puts our children at risk. Please do not block other cars in or driveways, thank you.
